What Is The Difference Between PLR, MRR, and RR?

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is what the differences between PLR, MRR, and RR.

It is important that you know the differences before downloading a product.

The full meaning for the abbreviations are:
  • PLR – Private Label Rights
  • MRR – Master Resell Rights
  • RR – Resell Rights
Knowing the difference between PLR, MRR, and RR will help you determined how to sell or market your products and the rights you have whilst marketing/selling them. There are other rights that are available such as Personal Use Rights Only  - PUO.

Private Label Rights (PLR)

PLR is the King of all available licenses. It allows for re-branding, sale in any way you wish and for it to be changed in any way you want. You are allowed to put your name as the author of the product but are not allowed to claim any copyright as the product is available to many others also.

Some PLR products are very restricted and have limits to what can be achieved, always make sure you read the license.

Master Resell Rights (MRR)

MRR rights are very similar to PLR products, apart from you are not allowed to change the product in any way or claim authorship over the product. The beauty of MRR products is that they allow you to resell the product on to your customer with master resell rights and/or resell rights. This then allows your customers to sell the product to their customers. Master Resell Rights products are generally the most popular form of license you will find online.

Resale Rights (RR)

Resale rights products, are products that you purchase that you have the right to resell to others to make a profit. The only thing you are allowed to do is to resell the product to the end-user. You can not change it in any way, you can not claim authorship or copyright to the product.

Resell rights products can be sold by you to someone who wants to use the product for themselves. They cannot resell the products themselves. You do not have the right to offer anyone else the ability to sell that product.

Personal Use Only (PUO)

You are allowed to use the product for your own benefits, however, you are unable to sell the original product on to your customers. You'll see plenty of products which come with PUO in the pro members area. When I purchase products with PLR for my own use, sometimes the only kind of rights I can pass to you is personal rights only.

Buying products online for resell is a quick and usually inexpensive way to quickly get your hands on a product to market. Knowing the difference between PLR, MRR and RR give you better knowledge about what you are buying. It also lets you know exactly how you can sell each of the product types so you can better know how to market your products.
